Q – What Is Chiropractic?

A – Chiropractic is the science, art, and philosophy of locating and correcting vertebral subluxations through gentle, specific chiropractic adjustments thus allowing your body to function at its optimum potential.

Q – What Is Subluxation?

A – A misalignment of one or more of your spinal bones (vertebrae), which causes interference to your nervous system. If your nervous system is interfered with, your body’s natural ability to heal itself and function at it’s optimum potential becomes impaired. A subluxation is a perfect example of how structure effects function.

Q – What Is An Adjustment?

A – A gentle, specific “thrust” delivered by hand or instrument. The purpose of the adjustment is to correct your spinal subluxation(s) thus removing the nerve interference in your body.

Q – Can Chiropractors Practice In Medical Facilities Or Make Use Of Medical Outpatient Centers?

A – Yes, since 1983 chiropractors have been recognized in hospitals and outpatient clinical centers (such as labs, x-rays) for their non-hospitalized clients.

Q – Exactly What Sort Of Education And Training Do Chiropractors Have?

A – Educational requirements for doctors of chiropractic are amongst the more stringent of any of the health care professions. Doctors of chiropractic are educated in problems associated with the nerves, muscles, tendons, and joints. Undergraduate work consists of 3-4 years of prerequisites, including courses in biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, psychology and connected lab work. A chiropractor will complete nearly four to five years of graduate work with a minimum of 4,820 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience. Chiropractors are educated in orthopedics, neurology, physiology, human anatomy, radiology, and physical therapy. Chiropractic training also consists of hundreds of hours of hands on clinical training.

Q – Is Chiropractic Treatment Proper For Kids?

A – Yes, kids can take advantage of chiropractic care. Children experience mental, chemical, and physical stressors just as adults do. Children also are very active and encounter numerous types of falls and impacts from day-to-day living along with taking part in sporting activities. Injuries such as these might cause lots of reasons for chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is gentle and always adapted to the specific client. Chiropractic care for children offers your family a solid foundation for wellness.

Q – Can Chiropractic Care Help Your Immune System?

A – Yes, stress maybe causing your immune system to not work properly. There are many studies showing the connection between your nervous system and immune system. By removing interference to your nervous system your body can heal and correct itself.

Q – Why Should Pregnant Women See A Chiropractor?

A – During the course of pregnancy the female body adapts to the physical, emotional, and hormonal changes. Due to these changes pregnant women may start to experience lower back pain, headaches, neck/upper back stiffness or other symptoms. Chiropractic care is very gentle and effective during this time. Research shows chiropractic care is a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function, reducing intrauterine constraint. It helps restore normal physiological function of the mother and improve her comfort throughout pregnancy in preparation for a safer, easier birth. Healthy moms equal healthy kids. Throughout pregnancy, birth, and childhood, the chiropractic lifestyle offers choices and benefits for your greater health and well-being.

Q – Is A Referral From An MD Necessary To See A Chiropractor?

A – A referral is generally not needed to see a chiropractor. You can book an appointment directly with a chiropractor and set up a plan.

Q – How Long Will It Take For My Body To Heal?

A – It depends on your personal history, current physical condition, level of stress, and how well you follow the chiropractic recommendations. Your body has tolerated physical, chemical, and emotional stress for years. It took years for your body to get to its current level of dis-ease. Healing is a process, and like every process in nature, healing takes time. It is unrealistic to expect permanent correction of condition instantly after we have abused the body for decades.

Q – What Causes The Sound Made During A Chiropractic Adjustment?

A – That sound is not your spine “cracking” or “popping” like most people think. That sound is created by gas (in this case, nitrogen) rushing in to fill the partial vacuum created when the joints are slightly separated. Another example of this phenomenon would be the “pop” sound you hear when the cork is taken out of a champagne bottle. Not all chiropractic techniques use force and thus produce no noise at all. The noise is not important to making an adjustment; the key is taking the pressure off of the nerve.

Q – Why Should I Continue Chiropractic Care If I Do Not Have Any Symptoms And I Feel Better?

A – Just because symptoms disappear, does not mean your subluxations are corrected. Most of the practice members seen in our office have spinal degeneration (decay) that has taken years to develop. The trauma of the birth process, slips, falls, accidents and countless other stresses over the course of your lifetime adversely affect the health of your spine. The longer you wait to have your spine checked by a chiropractor, the longer it will take to correct your subluxations. However, how you choose to use chiropractic care is ultimately up to you. It has been our experience that those who stop care when they are “feeling fine” return with the same health challenge(s) which brought them to our office in the first place…only it’s usually gotten worse. On the other hand, those practice members who commit to long-term, wellness chiropractic care, find their health challenge(s) rarely return and they enjoy a higher quality of life and health.
